On the Right Track
Paul is working to put his community on the right track – both in his professional life and as a volunteer with United Way Halton & Hamilton. As director of the Light Rail Transit Project for the City of Hamilton, Paul’s work hours are devoted to helping his fellow citizens move around the city quickly and efficiently. As a volunteer with United Way, Paul has dedicated himself to raising the funds that he has seen change lives in every neighbourhood in his hometown.
Before he joined the City of Hamilton, Paul was the Executive Director of a United Way-funded agency, so he knows first hand the power of a gift to United Way. When he had the opportunity, he was keen to serve as a United Way Campaign Chair and today he continues his volunteer leadership as a member of the Campaign Cabinet for United Way Halton & Hamilton.
Thinking back to his agency days, Paul says, “We worked with people with addictions, with mental health issues, who were near homelessness. Today they are employed and contributing to the community.” He has seen community programs use the funding they receive from United Way to do everything from helping children with no safe place to go after school to providing support to people recovering from serious surgery and illness. Paul knows that gifts to United Way change lives. “You know as an investor in your community, that you are getting the biggest return for your investment,” he says. “I love my community, so I’m investing in it through United Way.”
