Mary is one of the most recognized women in the labour movement. She was the first woman to lead the Hamilton and District Labour Council in the 61 years since it was granted a charter. Mary is a graduate of the Social Service Worker Program at Mohawk College and a professional member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She also holds certificates in Occupational Health and Safety and Labour Studies. Mary is passionate about the importance of formulating and implementing a realistic strategy that engages unions and community groups in cooperative efforts to build the city by mobilizing their respective assets and strengths. Mary has received numerous awards and honours including the Dominic Agostino Memorial Award for demonstrating excellent citizenship and leadership, the HDLC Women Volunteer Activist Award, and “Women of the Year ” to name a few. You will always find Mary out in the community supporting her brothers and sisters at events and activities throughout the year, but when it comes time for vacation you’ll find her on the beach in Cuba, her favourite vacation spot!
