John Armstrong is the National Industry Lead for Financial Services at KPMG Canada. In this role he is accountable for industry leadership in Canada of all services – audit, tax and advisory – across all industry segments. John’s areas of focus include corporate and business strategy, operations and technology enablement. John has worked across all sectors of the financial services industry but has a particular expertise in retail and business banking and wealth management. John also consults with clients around innovation and has written and spoken on this topic. Prior to joining KPMG, John was Managing Partner of Capco in Canada, a global business and technology consultancy dedicated solely to the financial services industry. Prior to Capco, John served in a variety of senior leadership roles over more than a decade at Accenture, including as Managing Director of the firm’s Canadian Financial Services practice and as Managing Director of Accenture’s Management Consulting practice across all industries. John has deep experience in country and regional competitiveness and currently serves on the Ontario Panel on Economic Growth and Prosperity. Prior to the formation of the Panel John served on the Ontario Premier’s Task Force on Competitiveness, Productivity and Economic Progress. John is very involved in charitable work and served as Chair of the Board of the United Way of Oakville. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University with High Distinction, graduating as a Baker Scholar and earned his Bachelor of Commerce, with Distinction from the University of Toronto. John also holds the ICD.D designation.
