Social Prescription Webcast
June 23, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated social and health inequities, further revealing the gaps between healthcare and other social services. Vulnerable individuals often do not access the community resources available to them. Healthcare providers are not able to directly address the complex social determinants of health, working within the current clinical system alone.
Social Prescribing is a way of referring people to a range of local, non-clinical services. What would it look like for the healthcare system to be able to refer people to a range of these services, seeking to address people’s needs in a holistic way and supporting individuals in taking greater control over their own health and wellbeing. What if doctors could prescribe dance lessons, cooking classes, community gardening, volunteer roles and caregiver supports?
We invite you to attend our webcast to learn more about ways we can address these challenges through Social Prescribing.
During this event you will hear from a panel of experts:
Dr. Mike Mikulak, Vice President, Community Impact, United Way Halton & Hamilton
Sonia Hsiung, Social Prescribing Lead, Alliance for Healthier Communities
Dr. Rebecca Ganann, Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, McMaster University
Dr. Ine Wauben, Managing Director, McMaster Institute for Research on Aging
Join us for a discussion exploring how we can implement Social Prescribing in Halton and Hamilton and why it’s important to do so now.
