This past year, we set the stage for transformation, both in the lives of the people we serve, and in the future of United Way itself.
We are again humbled by the loyalty and generosity of our community, enabling us to raise nearly $6 million. This funding is critical to the services provided by United Way Burlington & Greater Hamilton partner agencies. Through their innovative and dedicated efforts, the lives of hundreds of individuals and families are revitalized and transformed.
Like many charities, we’re feeling the effects of increasing competition, a soft economy, and changing attitudes about charitable giving.
We began discussions with our neighbouring United Ways; Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville, and found they too were interested in collaborating on a new strategy and structure. Resulting in United Way Halton & Hamilton (UWHH) – a new organization with the capacity to take on large scale issues through shared knowledge, staff and resources.
We’re maintaining a strong, local presence and continuing to ensure that money raised in each community stays in that community.
As we plan for future, we look forward to working alongside our UWHH colleagues, volunteers and partner agencies, we’re excited to be part of an evolution that offers extraordinary promise for each community.
